Viablife's team developed a high-yield strain of phytosphingosine derived from natural microorganisms, using our advanced high-throughput automated screening system. Phytosphingosine, IUPAC name: (2S,3S,4R)-2-Aminooctadecane-1,3,4-trio, is a kind of octadecane amino alcohol containing unsaturated alkyl chain. Sphingosine, a group of sphingolipids, is one of the components of cell membranes and a signaling lipid molecule involved in a variety of cellular processes. Sphingosine is mainly distributed in wheat and other plant seeds, and its content is very small, so it is very difficult to extract. Furthermore, phytosphingosine is based on the long chain of sphingosphingomyelin that acts as the backbone of ceramide (in short, naturally occurring ceramide precursors in the skin) and is present in the epidermal layer and the surface layer of the skin. It is similar to the material structure of the stratum corneum, which can quickly penetrate into the skin and combine with the water in the stratum corneum to form a network structure and lock in the water.
